What is trenching?
In construction, trenching is a term used to refer to the process of digging a trench in order to maintain, inspect, or install pipes. Trenching may also be necessary for underground wiring as well as a variety of plumbing or electrical jobs.
The Process Of Trenching for Pipelines
Pre-Construction Survey
The first part of a trenching project is to become familiar with and survey the area. Utility lines, drainages, and other notable landmarks are identified so that no accidental damage is caused. Then, the pipeline's centerline and boundaries are marked.
Clearing & Grading
Before any part of the Earth is moved, erosion control methods are installed to prevent complications. The pipeline's right of way is then cleared of any greenery.
Trenching
Topsoil is removed from the working area. Then machinery such as backhoes and trenching machines are used to clear the pipeline trench of any soil. All excavated materials are then set aside to prepare for the instalation of the pipeline.
Pipe Work
This is the step when the pipe is strung, welded, coated, and lowered for complete accuracy and efficiency.
Backfilling
The trench is now filled with all the soil that was previously dug up and set aside.
Testing and Restoring
The pipeline is then checked to make sure that it is operating successfully up to state/federal standards. Then the work area is thoroughly cleaned up and restored.
